My mother is 84 and sharp as a tack. She has a sinus infection and took a long nap yesterday afternoon after returning from an exhausting trip over Christmas (I mean EXHAUSTING her plane was delayed for 5 hours and they had to rent a car and drive all night). She woke up from her nap and started calling for my dad and even set him a place at the table. She is very upset as he had alzheimers and she's worried she's going crazy. Has anyone heard of this before?

When a loved one dies, it is hard. When a child dies, it is harder on the parents. Most parents expect for their children to outlive them, not the other way around. Thus, when a parent looses a child and is under stress, they may, without thinking, ask for or call out to their child expecting an answer.

My Grandmother was the same way, she was also crying a lot, and the fact that I look almost exactly like my fater did at my age (same height, build, hair color, etc) and my brother doesn't causes her to remember him when she sees me.

Just try to be there for her and she will begin to move past it.

Something is seriously wrong with her. I'm not being mean, i sware, but you really do need to take her to a doctors office. Really. If your father died and she is calling for him then maybe the whole sinus infection flew her out of her normal pattern, or maybe she's just been thinking of him a lot and the sinus infection influenced some of her actions. Just be there for her and remind her about his altimers. Poor poor lady...
I wish you the best of luck taking care of your mother...

She may have just woke up from having a dream where she was calling your dad to the table to eat and it seemed so real that she forgot for a little while. After being sick and the long drive this could have easily happened. I wouldn't be conserened unless it kept on happening.

my great grandma did the same thing when she was around a couple years ago and it scared my family but when we took her to the doc. he said it was 1 of the first signs of alzheimers (after testing her) you should take her to the doc. to make sure she doesnt have alzheimers or anything
good luck (i know its hard and scary)
