Most Americans didn't know it. But U.S. and Iran had been allies in the '70s, during the rule of the Shah. But the Shah's rule of Iran is an example where the U.S. supported corrupt and brutal dictatorships. The anti-American sentiment among ordinary Iranians grew from the U.S. support for the Shah's repressive rule. It led to the Shah's overthrow from power and the taking of American hostages by Iranian students.

It can happen,US and Iran were just fine when Shah Pahlevi was in power but I can't see it happening with the Islamic Republic in power(nothing against Islam but the people who rule this goverment).Hopefully if Iran changes to a better goverment,they could be friends with US and both would end up winning with this.Specially let's not forget with the anti-Israel mentality that the Iranian goverment has no chance they can be any friend with America.

i believe that the damage both sides have done to each other will pervent that form happening .. alteast for 10 to 20 years

It will not happening I am sorry, they are very different than us. We are there to long. They have civil war now we are just gettibg killed there. Our soldiers have no purpose there now.
