Doesnt really matter its just a squd number, the team might have a player registered and his name on the back. If its a premiership team or league team in the uk, sunday leagues side dont really have names on their shirts. A few years ago before the advent of having names on shirts it was usually a subtitute.

In the past, number 12 would be used by a substitute, but now, it could be anybody, as players all have squad numbers rather than stick to a 1 - 11 shirt format. so, there is no typical number 12 anymore.

In the past the number 12 would be used by a substitute but now everyone uses squad numbers so any one could have it.

Very true. Players can choose numbers they prefer, and they then become a trademark of that player.
Thierry Henry wears number 12 for France but that doesn't mean other strikers should.

i would say a midfielder...because a goalkeeper gets #1, and sub. goalies get a big number maybe 18<, defenders get #s 2 to 6, strikers usually have #s from 7,9,10,16,21...
that's what i think, according to the teams i watch playing

it varies, but i don't think it'd be the goalkeeper. the top goalie is always number 1 and then the rest of the players get what numbers are left.

GK. But I do know that #1 is also a GK and #10 would most likely be a CAM, winger, or striker.
