There are other countries who have had female presidents. Is America a hypocrite nation? Is America as oppressive as the countries you try to liberate??

obviousma.. u are wrong. do a google search on female presidents and you will find female presidents from Ireland, Philippines, Bolivia etc.

As for the marketablity of female politicians, thank you for proving my point. You owe it to your American media for not displaying and supporting the MANY female presidential candidates that have tried to run such as Dorian Yaeger or Elizabeth Hanford Dole. American media would rather display the T & A of women rather than show competent women. And Americans fall for this. Americans are hypocrites. Sure Americans may be freeier than some countries. But Americans are not free. It's a false sense of freedom.

Because my mother won't run, and she is the only person that I would trust with my tax dollars.

Aside from which, I can't stand Hillary, she lied like a ho when they were questioning her about the Savings and Loans incidents. She kept saying "I can't recall". She was a lawyer, it wouldn't have taken her long to pull the paperwork if she wanted the truth known.

OK, I'll take a shot at this, even though I'm probably asking for trouble.

Eileen, I find it rude in particular for individuals to sit in the proverbial "cheap seats" and take shots at a process they don't understand. Although you are correct that America is hypocritical (on so many levels, I might add), living in the USA is about as free as it gets anywhere. We have freedoms unparalleled anywhere in the world. The fact that you can even pose such a question, with your obvious agenda, is due to the freedoms we have in America. (I'm sure you know that Yahoo is an American company).

But, to answer your question, there has never been a female president because there hasn't been an electable female candidate in the past. It has a lot to do with the American political machine, and marketability. With the power of television, a presidential candidate must have a sellable personality, TV exposure over a long period of time, and charisma. Since women are still in the minority in American politics, it is more difficult for a woman to rise through the ranks of her party. Although there have been no female candidates for president in the two major political parties in the USA, Geraldine Ferraro was a vice-presidential candidate in the 80's.

I find it interesting that you're such an expert on American media, yet not an American. And you rail against showing T & A, yet have a picture of a woman's legs instead of an avatar. Gee, who's the hypcrite here?

You say that there are MANY candidates, but only mention two out of the HUNDREDS of presidential candidates over the past two decades. Like I said, women are in the MINORITY in politics, and it takes more than T & A to win an election. Otherwise, Farrah Fawcett would have been President in the 1976.

Thanks for showing the us all your boundless ignorance of American politics. Let's take the example of Libby Dole. Frankly, I would have voted for her, if she hadn't withdrawn from the race by the New Hampshire primaries. In my state, our primary elections are much later, when unviable political candidates have fallen by the wayside. The truth of the matter is that she didn't have enough political support (spelled $$$$) to support her campaign. The fact of the matter is that you must have the support of many groups (such as labor, industry, grassroots groups, education, etc.) in order to run a campaign. Elizabeth Dole just didn't have that much support.

Of course, your question may very well be moot in a couple of years. Right now, Hillary Clinton is a VERY strong candidate for president for the 2008 election. Right now, potential candidates are beginning to prepare for the election, ans she is considered the Democratic front-runner. So there goes your T&A theory. She has the exposure, the political clout, and support she needs to make a serious run at the presidency.

Despite your obvious anti-American agenda, this is the land of the free. You are free to rant and babble your anti-American rhetoric, while enjoying the freedoms that America provides. That's the beauty of America. While I despise the things you have to say, I will defend to the end your right to say it.

God Bless America

For a start, women in America didn't get the right to vote -- and even then, not without a heckuva fight -- until the early 1900s. (If ya can't vote, how can you get on a ballot to run for office!)
Just as there is racism in America so is there sexism. And the sexism may be even greater because men of all colors, as well as some of the women, have bought the bull that women are somehow "inferior". Just look at some of the responses in here!
Don't forget: the wonderful U.S. Constitution said all MEN were created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights...That document didn't include men of color. They had to get their own amendment years later! And it never mentioned women, period.
The United States is not as oppressive as some of the countries it has tried to "liberate". Americans don't chop off thieves' hands, for instance. Or stone so-called "adulterous" women to death. Or hack off women's and children's arms with machetes. Or...or...or...the list is long and gruesome.

Females can run for President there is no law preventing it, and a lot of them are in Congress. However, I do not think the American people would vote for a female President. Which is probably why none has been selected on either side not a strong enough candidate.

we are getting there. there'll be a lady president interior the very close to destiny. we've not had a lady president yet because that's nonetheless a guy's international obtainable. females might want to artwork two times as complicated to do an same pastime as a guy, be 3 circumstances the jackash, and droop low adequate to a guy's aspect basically to right him. not very many women in politics yet can do all that.

Okay, tell Ya what. Why don't you just take the wheel for the next 200 years. We will draft only women into military service, you can build all the bridges, buildings, planes, roads and I would say cars but all of that will be done elsewhere. You can run the government too. Do'er all! We will sit at home on our thumbs and order Longaberger baskets online and watch The View while bitching about what a crappy job you are doing. I have to go now ........won"t you hold the door for me on my way out? Citysatchels? Aren't you afraid you'll chip a nail or something? P.S. Nice shoes, can you shovel snow in them?

When the constitution was written, "All men are created equal" meant just that, except by "men" they meant "white men".

We've come a long way (despite strict constitutionalists) and still have a long way to go.

Not many countries have had female presidents (in other democratic countries, the president is like a king - a figurehead)
but there have been a few female prime ministers.

Apparently no American female has ever bee seen as the most qualified candidate. Probably not based on her gender as much as her perceived effectiveness as a potential president.

I don't think the real reasons have anything to do with freedom or equality. Men and women are not equal and never will be. The real reasons are cultural and gender related based on preference, not politics.
