Technically its the sun (93 million miles average). But I assume that you mean other stars:
The nearest is Proxima Centauri--a little over4 light years. Its a companion stare to Alpha Centauri (a G-type star like our sun) which is 4.36 light years out. There is also a third star in the Centauri system--Beta Centauri.
Other nearby stars include Procyon, Barnard's Star, and Sirius (actualy a binary system: 2 stars) among nearby stars (less than 10 light years from us). Another interesting star is Eplison Erindani--a bit over 10 light years. It's a sun-like star too--and is know to have at least one planet at about the distance of our gas giants. This planet is also a gas giant--and about 1.5 times the size of Jupiter.

I think it's obvious that she means APART from our sun. That goes without saying. But incase you want to know, it's an average distance of 93.000,000 miles away (150,000,000 kilometres). That is 8 light minutes. Although it's slightly closer than that at this time of year.
Our nearest star is indeed 4 light years away as poster number 2 stated. Infact, our 3 nearest stars are all around 4 light years away, but just in different directions.

I don't know why so many people are getting the answer to this wrong.
If it's a "trick" question, then the answer, like others have said, is our own Sun -- about 93,000,000 miles away.
If it's a question about the nearest extra-Solar star, it is Proxima Centauri, about 4.2 light years away.
