Football is pretty complicated once you get into the different strategies and formations that the offense and defense uses. But let's start with the basics. In football, there will be two teams trying to outscore the other playing with 11 men on the field representing each team. There are usually anywhere from 45-50 players on an entire team. The offensive positions are as follows: quarterback, halfback, fullback, reciever one, reciever two, tight end, center, right guard, left guard, right tackle, and left tackle. Center snaps the ball to the quarterback to start each play. The quarterback then has several things he can do, which are usually predetermined before the play starts, which includes giving the ball to one of the runningbacks, throwing it to a reciever or tight end, or running it himself. On defense the positions are left end, right end, defensive tackle one, defensive tackle two, middle linebacker, right linebacker, left linebacker, cornerback one, cornerback two, strong safety, and free safety. The middle linebacker is usually the heart of the defense which main the main goal for them is to keep the offense from scoring. There are also several ways to score. The most basic, of course, is the touchdown. A touchdown is worth six points and you get this by crossing the goal line. After you score a TD, you have two options. You can get one point by kicking a 17 yard field goal or you can run a regular play from three yards out and try to get two points. A field goal that comes anytime except after a TD is worth three points. I hope this helps your understanding of my favorite sport, football.

okay blase me or w/e is lying
Ten yards for a first down. 4 trys to get a first down. On first down most teams tend to run. On second down it is a mix of run and pass. On third down it depends on how far...over 7 yards most likely a pass. Fourth down is mostly a Punt or Field Goal attempt, depending on the time left in the game and how far until a first down some teams may go for it. to get a touchdown one team must cross the goal line after a touchdown teams get a chance to go for one (extra point) or two (2 pt. conversion). Extra points happen more often because they are mostly automatic. The qb throws the ball, the RB runs the ball, the lineman block, the WR's catch the passes. The LB's tackle the runner, The CB's defend the WR's and the SS/FS defend Wr's and tackle the runners. When a qb is tackled with the ball in the backfield it is called a sack. there is other stuff too..... way too much ask ur friends..

Wow thats a lot to explain pretty complicated sport but speaking from experience the best way to learn is to watch it with people who really know it dont ask questions during the game it gets pretty agravated and 1 thing that really help me was playing Madden(football video game) thats the best time to ask ?s and you learn a lot that way. sOMETHING THAT DIDN'T REALLY HELP ME AT ALL WAS TRYING TO READ UP ON IT THAT IS WAY TO CONFUSING ITS BETTER TO HAVE SOMEONE TO EXPLAIN and once you get reg. football flag football will be easy to under stand It may take time though but get started b/c fotball is almost over for the year.

You know those yellow books, like "DOS for Dummies"? I'm NOT saying you are a dummy, but they have one about football. You should get it & study up, because there's way too much info to give you in a small format like this one.
Good luck.

I suggest you watch football on TV and then get some friends together and play, someone will teach you the rules then.
