I want to know if my fish, a sucking loach, is dying. If my sucking loach, called scooter, is swimming at the surface does that mean he is dying? I clean his tank and put de-chlorinaizer in every week. Each night i put food in his tank and the food makes the tank dirty. Then he tends to stick onto a plant i have in the tank by the top part of the water. His head is not sticking out or his nose he is just like right below the surface. Does that mean he is dying? he does not stick his head out of the water or anything he just stays right below the surface and when he gets spooked he starts swimming around the tank poking his head out of the water during the day. But he does not do that right after I clean it. Does that mean his food is poisouning him?

Do you have an air pump? You need to have one of those, unless you have a filter that pushes air into the water.

I would think of changing food and maybe clean less often and when you clean only change 25% of the water.

Good luck!

PH needs to be tested and do not change water so often. Keep water temp about 72-75. Try to never do more than a 30% water change every 2 weeks - get a good filter that filters more than the recommended water volume of your aquarium and a good gravel vacuum to get rid of rotting food on in the rocks! You are using tap water (I assume since you are using the chlor-out stuff). Try reverse osmosis water. It does not have the minerals that make water hard or the chlorine - and your loach will appreciate that!!!

when you change the water in the tank only change half at a time. fish have what is called a slime coat. that is their natural barrier against disease.when you change the water put your fish in a baggie of its old water and let it hang out in the tank until the new water mixes with the old and reaches the same temperature.as far a s food try flake food.

dont put de-chlorinizer directly to the tank the water in the tank has already been de-chlorinated by sitting and being circulated bythe pump. you only have to dechlorinate water if it is coming from the tap. then dechlorinate it BEFORE you put it in the tank the ph levels will be way off by now so get your water checked at a reputable pet store and get the correct products to correct it

well, fish needs to breath too, so they like to come up for air. and goldfish is diffrent from mammals and other animals, they only need food twice a week, they don't know when they are full so if there is food they will eat till they are dead, don't worry, your fish is not dying\

btw let the food float on the surface only or it'll go in the fish's fin and poison him

make sure you keep an eye on your PH levels. if it is too high it could make the fish sick and act strangley (no appetite, swimming patterns etc.)same goes for a PH that is too low.You could also try feeding him some floating pellets if he likes to stay at the top

I would take a sample of the water to the pet store and they will do a test on it and let you know what is going on. Sorry I'm not of much help with this one.

no i think your fish isnt dying i just think that your fish has but put into different temperatures to quickly which can cut the circulation in their body for a while its just that and make sure you have a water heater it helps them a lot!
