It means "there is my god."
Hay is the translation of There is...
Hay Dios mío = There is my God.
Ay Dios Mio! = Oh my God!

Like the others said, it's Spanish for "Oh my God!" Direct translation doesn't mean that, but that's what the phrase would work out to in English.
However, most of the people who answered have REALLY poor reading comprehension. The person who asked the question said they took French, that's why they doesn't understand that phrase. Because it's in Spanish, and not the French that they have a background in.

I think it's Spanish, and not "hay" which is a word meaning "there is" but rather "ay" which is just an exclamation, like "ah". Dios mio means my god.

this says oh my god in spanish are you sure they were french usaully when someone uses it its not in the startled sense but the i have no patience nonsense
second linkin no one here has bad reading comprehension since we PRESUMED that he took french had something to do with his question and thus its translation
the fact he took french we thought he may have confused the similar languages which the dialect is actually sligthy similar i have experienced similarity with my french speaking aunts uncle and cousins and not just the fact that him taking french arose his curiosity in finding out what it means we probably would have better been able to answer the question
