Under no circumstances should illegal immigrants be shot while trying to gain entry to UK. What is needed is a great deal more security both in northern France (Calais) and at ports of entry such as Dover.

UK bound trucks are often boarded at night by illegals and in some cases the drivers are threatened by gang-masters that they will be killed if they call for help or say anything. There was an item about this in ITN News last night on the 22.30 news.

Among the illegal immigrants there are genuine asylum seekers; people fleeing for their lives from countries where they are often rounded up by the gangs back home and either shot or put to death by torture. These people are fleeing from real and not imagined terror.

An investigative journalist, not sure who working for, took a coach journey from Romania along with a coach-load of Romanians all of whom were leaving Romania for other countries in the EU. By the time the coach reached Germany, it was empty and the owners of the coach terminated the journey there. It was originally to have come to UK but insufficient Romanians wanted to settle there.

Most Romanians and Bulgarians prefer the south of Europe and are likely to head for Spain and Portugal where there is already a well established Romanian and Bulgarian community for them to join. UK is not on their itinerary.

But, immigrants aren't flocking to the United States to mooch off the government. According to a study by the Urban Institute, the 1996 welfare reform effort dramatically reduced the use of welfare by undocumented immigrant households, exactly as intended. And another vital thing happened in 1996: the Internal Revenue Service began issuing identification numbers to enable illegal immigrants who don't have Social Security numbers to file taxes. What's more, aliens who are not self-employed have Social Security and Medicare taxes automatically withheld from their paychecks. Since undocumented workers have only fake numbers ( given to them by the IRS), they'll never be able to collect the benefits these taxes are meant to pay for. Last year, the revenues from these fake numbers — that the Social Security administration stashes in the “earnings suspense file” — added up to 10 percent of the Social Security surplus. The file is growing, on average, by more than $50 billion a year. The cost of undocumented aliens is an issue that immigrant bashers have created to whip up indignation against people they don't want here in the first place. With the Senate having just returned from yet another vacation and promising to revisit the stalled immigration bill, politicians ought to set the record straight: Illegals are not milking the government. If anything, it is the other way around. White House Report Lauds Immigrants' Positive Effects NY Times | June 20, 2007 ROBERT PEAR Hoping to influence Congressional debate, the White House issued a report on Tuesday saying, “Immigration has a positive effect on the American economy as a whole and on the income of native-born American workers.” But it acknowledged that some research had found “small negative effects” on the wages of the least-skilled American workers. The report, prepared by the president's Council of Economic Advisers, says immigrants enhance the productivity of native-born workers and increase their earnings a significant amount, estimated at $37 billion a year. Can't argue with the facts, sorry..

1/ Romania & Bulgaria are within the EU, so their citizens don't need a passport to come to the UK, only an ID if (and only if) they take the plane, and nothing otherwise!

2/ Unlike you seem to think, they bring a lot to the British economy. That's why our political learders are happy to welcome them.

3/ Shall we also kill all the British citizens who live in other EU countries (just following your logics to show how stupid your question is)?

4/ I can't believe there are so many people here who behave like little Nazis (from your question and some answers to them)!

5/ Some of you guys are incitating to hatred and even murder! This is a crime. I am considering reporting you to the Police.

KILL KILL IGOR KILL. IGOR GET BRAINS. SPLATTER GUTS ALL OVER ROAD. THEY DIE. YES THEY DIE.

But, seriously no! That's too disgusting to even contemplate. The UK doesn't even shoot serial killers anymore, and you want to shoot illegal immigrants?

We don't want to shoot them. As they don't want to be in France and we don't want them - we should take them to the half way point and let them decide.

Obviously, as most of them can't swim, I doubt they would make it back to Dover and I somehow don't think France would have a problem either.....

And if they do make it here, then I think they deserve to stay and we can give them a job cleaning the pollution out the Thames

Wow...I must be missing something...does being a member of the EU mean that anybody can go live in anybody else's country?

If so, that is tooooooo weird for words, who would be crazy enough to ever agree to that?

What like in the days of the Berlin wall?
Just a big no entry sign would do. Do not pass go, do not collect your income support.
