So they can wobble their big wobbly bottoms.
Actually they probably go to the pool to chat because the buoyancy of the water lifts the weight of their gargantuan nether portions thus enabling them to chat for longer without tiring out their poor overworked excuses for legs! ;)

Isn't that so annoying?! What's the point of getting into a swimming pool if you're not going to swim in it? They're only cheating themselves by staying at the edge, talking to their friends.
Mind you, it could be because they don't have much self-confidence; maybe they see lots of thin, muscular people zooming up and down the pool and they get discouraged. It shouldn't be like that. Everyone has the right to enjoy keeping fit, and no one should be wary of what others think about them as they do it.

because they don't think you can see the wobbly bits underwater. if you want to swim properly don't go to a leisure centre. its full of women who want to chat and fill the water with makeup and perfume. ever been to an aqua aerobics sessions, jeez you could see the oil floating in the pool from all the products they were using and not one had a shower before getting into the pool sorry for the rant but it annoys me so much

when it is an outside pool, they could actually sweat away the access water. If they are try to loose weight, they might go to the pool to get a tan and sweat. and believe it or not, they are getting exercise if they are floating because they use their hands to paddle.

Because they like to get out in the sun and fresh air too. Beats sitting on the couch eating bonbons.

Their wobbly bottoms are not buoyant, this causes flotation problems. They have to hang on the edge chatting to suppress their fear of drowning.
