Absolutely not true!!!!! Babies born in the 8th month are almost close to full term and have an excellent chance of being 100% healthy, although some need a stay in the NICU for a bit at the beginning. The earliest I've heard of a baby surviving and going on to be completely healthy was born at 23 weeks (a pregnancy is 40 weeks)

Not true! With the technology today, some babies can actually be saved as early as 24 weeks! The eight month is when the lungs are finishing up development, so it is best to try and get past it...but if labor is unstoppable, they give you a shot of steriods to speed things up.
A baby is actually considered full term at 36 weeks and the chance of survival is like 98%.

To all the people who are questioning where this thought came from, back in the 'good ol days', babies born at 7 months had a better chance of survival that those born at 8 months. This has to do with the amount of surfactant in the lungs (that's the liquid that allows a baby to 'breathe' in the womb). Today's advances have turned the tables greatly on the survival of all preemies.

That is not true at all! With the technology they have today they can save babies born in the sixth month. I know my nephew was born in the sixth month. If a baby dies that early it is more likely to be from an infection or some kind of birth defect then just being born early.

not true, the chance of survival increases after the 6 month of pregnancy (but if its that early the baby will need medical attention for a while to get breathing, feeding and everything settle. my friend's brother's baby was born in the 8th month and had a few weeks of medical help and went home and is still fine to this day.

Hi this is an old wives tale that I've heard on a number of occasions. My Grandmother and some of her Friends used to say it. I think it came from children not surviving in the old days as they didn't have the technology that we have today when children are born prem.

That is completely untrue. Nearly all babies survive in the eighth month with very good birth weight.

Very untrue! I have herd stories about babies being born at 20 weeks! The babies may be small, and take awhile to get out of the hospital but, they do survive!

Untrue. My mother was born 48 yrs ago and she weighed only 2lbs and a couple ozs. Back then they didn't have the technology they have today. She is alive and well and no long term problems from it. I THINK my grandmother said she was born in the 7-8 month.
