I went to the doctors after i blanked out after a night out. i was hysterical and under stress. i didnt want to tell my doctor what i happened because i didnt want them to check me out. i knew i needed emergency contraception just in case so i made up that me and boyfriend had unprotected sex- i went home and found out my friends had taken care of me the entire night and now i dont want my gp thinking that my lie was true. should i go to the doctors and explain what happened so that they can change my record- can they even change my record? and most worryingly will they prosecute me for lying to a doctor and obtaining contraception under the circumstances? i was really really stressed and now im worrying about keeping things as they are-please help as much as you can. Thank you.

Doctors won't prosecute you for lying to them. They will just document it.

If you needed emergency contraception, well then you went and got it and no harm done I hope.

You'd probably just do better to leave it be. It's not a big deal if you go back to that doctor and they have a record that you sought help previously for emergency contraception.

I think you should just chill out and take it easy. There isn't any big emergency here.

No, there is no law for lying to a doctor...so don't worry about that. If there was a law for lying to a doctor, then probably half the population of the US would be in jail. Next time, just be honest with your doctor. He'll understand....don't worry. But don't go back to the doctor just to explain this...he'll charge you an office visit. Just get on some protection, and plan things out. Don't let yourself get hysterical. Trust me when I say this, they have people in the world with more pressing problems than yours. You seem like a very nice girl....so just chill out and quit stressing. Next year you will wonder why your all freaked out about things. I wish you the best of luck.

Don't worry, nothing terrible will happen. I have been a doctor for over 20 years and I can assure you that you will not be prosecuted or sued for this. Simply go to your doctor and explain that you probably weren't pregnant and he will take additional measures of precautions.
Do not fear. You can't and won't be sued/ charged/ arrested/ prosecuted for this. Contraception is a right for all citizens in the US. All you need to do is tell your doctor and make sure he erases this record from your medical file to avoid future complications in the years to come.

They cannot prosecute you. However, like the "doctor" below , you cannot alter a medical record, and delete information once it is there. That is scary. That is fraud. they can however document what happened. If it will make you feel better, do it.
