What happened to WinMx and are there any truly free music downloads available?

I used to get full cd's from winmx but limewire screwed up my computer and alas I have to start over. HELP

Win MX got shut down along with Napster and most of the free music services out there. For a while it was resurrected by one of the users but that went down too. The music industry has all kinds of pit bulls watching the net for music piracy. So even if a free service pops up, it won't last long. Certainly posting something about it here would be the death of such a service.

Itunes is, unfortunately, about your best bet. It's not free, but 99 cents a pop isn't too bad for songs. It's faster than Win MX ever dreamed of being and they have a pretty decent song library.
