A Sprint phone will only work with Sprint and a Nextel phone will only work with Nextel. why? coz mobile phone companies use different technologies.
But hey, here's the catch, with the merger, recently there has been some phones released in some select areas, called Hybrid phones - which works both on the Sprint and Nextel network. It's very few and out of like the thousands of calls i got in a month(coz i was a sprint rep over the phone till the end of december 2006), only 1 to 0 customers got hybrid phones. There's no guarantee that its available in ur area, but just check sprint.com for phone availability. I think when this is fully launched, this will be a great milestone for Sprint and its customers.

No. Sprint and Nextel might be the same company now, but you can't use a phone made for Sprint PCS on Nextel or vice versa because they use different frequencies and different digital technologies to transmit their signals.
