My bub is the same way. She also has acid reflux. My m-in law thought she was screaming cuz of the iron in the formula. No, she had acid reflux my doc said. I did end up putting her on low iron formula too. She seems to be doing better now, but she still has gas and cries once in a while. Mine is 3 months old and I gave her a couple spoonfuls of cereal the other day. I just diluted it w/formula and gave her like 4 baby spoonfuls of it. it was funny watching her face as she tasted the cereal. she isn't used to it and she made a funny face. it didn't mess up her belly at all though after wards. she seemed satisfied. I don't want to give it to her in a bottle like most people do cuz i don't want to have to cut the nipple and wreck it. little baby spoonfuls worked for me. i'm sure it won't hurt, you can cut a cross in one of his nipples i was told and add like a tablespoon of cereal to like 4 oz. of formula. that's what i was told. like I said, i just didn't want to ruin one of her nipples so I spoonfed her. it was cute.

Cereal doesnt much help in terms of gas problems. Mylocin drops are expensive, just look for Simethicone drops (gas drops) They helped my baby immensely- and the good thing about them is that they dont absorb into baby's system, so you can give them to him as often as he needs them (but no more than 12 drops a day). I usually gave them to my son after his nighttime bottle, it helped him stay asleep longer.
The only thing cereal leads to is smelly burps. Keep his formula consistent. Dont change it. If Goodstart works, keep using it. Try excercising his legs for him too, it helps move the gas around to help get it out. Lay him across your legs and rub his back- that helps too. Or, sit him upright on your lap, hold his butt in one hand, chest in the other, and kind of wiggle his butt around slowly, this helps his tummy a whole lot too.

Find a formula that suits him and stick with it, changing his formula often can cause digestive gas. Also, you can try Ova drops, you can buy them over the counter at any drug store. They don't coat the baby's digestive system and they just disolve any gas in the gut.
Be sure to follow the directions if you use them, you don't want to use them too often during the day.

A lot of babies have problems with gas. It's because their bellies can't digest the formula properly. Switching his formula was probably a wise choice. I suggest you talk it over with your ped's dr though if you're really concerned. My son had gas day one he was born until he got on foods. If he's a colicky baby try giving him gas drops. This helped my son. He was on these almost every day!

Yes it is normal for bottle-fed babies to be gassy. Cereal will definitely decrease the gas or you can try an over the counter medicine called Mylicon. I used it for both of my boys. You can find it in the baby needs aisle of any grocery store.

Another thing you can do is to keep baby on his tummy. While hes kicking and raising his head to look around his tummy is pressed and he will expel quite a bit of the gas. Remember that a certain amount of gas is necessary to push the bowels. :) God Bless.

Have you ever tried a milk-free formula? Nestle makes one that is very nutritious, called AlSoy..should be right beside the Goodstart at the store.
a lot of babies cannot handle cows milk in any form. (including one of mine!)

Mylecon. works great and is safe to use. They sell it at any local drugstore. My son had the same problems and Mylecon works miracles. As with any medicine, read the labels to make sure your son can take it or consult his doctor.
