Nearly everyone is missing the true question. He is not asking what @ means, he is asking what the name of the symbol is. Everyone is sitting here explaining what it means, why don't you also explain what the & and * means while you are at it?

Ok, I'm done venting. I'm so tired of people that just don't read. Anyhow, I'm not sure if this is the name that you were looking for, however this is the best I can find. When I was in MS Word, and I was in the "insert symbol" menu, and it was showing all of the symbols and written descritions/names of them, it referred to @ as "Commercial At". It seems too simple to be the right answer, but it referred to & as "ampersand" and * as "asterisk", so I guess that it what they are really called, at least according to MS Word.

The "at" sign.

One origin tale states that the @ symbol was used as an abbreviation for the word "amphora," which was the unit of measurement used to determine the amount held by the large terra cotta jars that were used to ship grain, spices and wine.
