I do not care if people smoke in public places, but many smokers seem to be very careless of how they dispose of their waste in public. Why?

For me, it's safer to throw it out the window than to look down and attempt to put it out in an ashtray. If it goes out the window, I can keep my eyes on the road. It's careless and wrong and I don't really like to do it; but I'd really hate to have some kind of accident even more.
Throwing cigarettes down in public places.... I guess it's the same as being a litterbug. And I guess I"m guilty of that too. Why? Thoughtlessness, I suppose. I never really have given too much thought to it (only when I see lots of cig butts laying on the ground..... It's pretty bad to look down and see 20-30 butts all over the ground and no one's taking the time to dispose of them.) Then lazyness.... lack of pride in one's community, maybe.
TY for throwing the question out there w/o being judgemental.about it. I for one, will be more aware of what I"m doing from now on. I'm old enough to know better anyway! (smile).

It's probably easier for a driver to toss his butt out the window than to grind it in an ashtray. Or maybe they are so meticulous about the interior of the car, that they don't want to dirty the ashtray, or have to look at the unsightly butts. Mostly, I guess it's because they are too lazy to put it out, or don't want to be distracted while driving. They don't realize how dangerous this can be, as a flying, lit cigarette can cause a fire or injury to another driver. Best idea -- If you have to smoke, don't smoke while driving! Wait till you reach your destination, or before you take off.

It's because they think that if they smoke in the car with the window down and throw their cigarette butts out the window, us non-smokers won't know they have smoked in the car. Too bad when you are a non-smoker it is totally obvious and you can smell it the nano-second that you open the car door. My husband tries to hide the fact that he smokes in the car..... it doesn't work!

Because they're a bunch of irresponsible, uncaring and insensitive jerks that don't care about anyone but themselves and their filthy frigging habits.
I'm an ex-smoker and that still gets my goat - I NEVER threw a butt out the window - it makes me too mad.

They are thoughtless and probably dont want dirty ash in their car.Its the same with walkers.My daughter noticed a stubthat was still burning which may well have started a fire. She had to stub it out.
