I had my first ultrasound at eightweeks. They told me then that I wasn't having twins or it would be visible. 5 weeks is very early. They can't even hear the heart beats. I think she is messing with you. A doctor would not tell her that unless he knew for sure. I am almost positive that she could not know that as early as 5 weeks. Most people don't even realize they are pregnant until atleast 4 weeks. Tell her you looked it up and she is lying. Then she will probably fess up.

It relies upon. in case you had CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling) or an amniocentesis, the place they insert a needle by way of your abdomen and assemble some anmiotic fluid, they are in a position to tell a hundred% for specific top now, because of the fact the amniotic fluid has shed epidermis cells containing the DNA of the toddler. in any different case, you will would desire to attend till your well being care expert schedules a point 2 ultrasound, frequently between 18-22 weeks. some women can tell around 14 weeks, if the toddler is a boy, and others can tell around sixteen weeks, no rely if baby, yet maximum women locate out between 18-22 weeks, that's extra precise, while they have their point 2 ultrasound. for a girl, you will see 3 white lines, a boy is unmistakeable..a great, neat little pole. yet, you will locate out a hundred% for specific the day the toddler is born.

Yes, a sonographer (person who does the sonogram) can tell at that point whether or not your friend is having a multiple birth. Each egg (even at five weeks) will have its own amniotic fluid sack, as well as its own umbilical cord forming. Each fetus would be distinct. You're friend is right. Her doctor is probably not an idiot. He did go to college for seven years and was an intern for about two (more than likely).
It sounds like your friend may "embellish" the truth sometimes (from your post, it sounds like that), so there's a good chance she may be b.s.ing. Or she's pulling the wool over some folk's eyes so that she may "miscarry" one or two (or three) of them for sympathy purposes.
But, your friend is right in telling you that her doctor can tell how many babies she is having.

She's yanking your chain. They don't do ultrasounds at 5 weeks, and most women don't even know they're pregnant until they are 8 weeks along. Although my mom got pregnant WHILE she was pregnant (didn't know she was pregnant, and a couple of weeks after she conceived, she ovulated again and wound up with twins a couple of weeks apart in age, now that's really rare and freaky), I don't think your friend is being honest.

You can find out by a vaginal ultrasound. I had one at 5 weeks to see how many babied ther was cause I had been taking clomid. I saw a beating heart. It is possible for her to have seen all the heartbeats.

I think she might be pulling your chain. You would never be able to tell at that stage and in fact you usually can't know until you have the first scan. If she has quads then that will be punishment enough don't you worry. Otherwise she will be found out for lying anyway.

sounds dubious, for several reasons. was she taking fertility drugs or did she have IVF and they implanted multiple embryos?
normally they don't do an ultrasound at 5 weeks, and I'm not sure they could tell by then even if they do a transvaginal US at that stage that she was carrying quads.
But they can tell if you're hcg levels are abnormally high by doing a qualitative hcg blood level that you might be carrying multiples. But this is by no means a sure thing, and it might also mean birth defects.

Nowdays, a sonogram can tell almost from the beginning. My friend found out she was having twins when she was 4 weeks along, and they were able to tell her that her's were identical.

Actually if she has had an ultrasound they would know there was more than 1 in there. But they wouldn't know yet how many of them were actual babies and how many never developed. I think she is pulling your leg. Good luck
