I don't believe it for a minute. The United States captured Saddam and then handed him over to the Iraqi justice system. The US facilitated the Iraqis to form their own democratically elected government which is operating on its own. We give them all the support they need carry out their own operations but it is their government and their doings. Iraqi elected judges condemned Saddam to be hanged after a fair trial and then an appeal for his crimes against humanity in an Iraqi court of law under the Iraqi constitution. They accelerated the execution in order to avoid more violence and protest by the Iranian and Syrian backed insurgents and a hand full of Bathists from Saddam's own town of Tikrit. In my opinion, if a man murders and tortures thousands of his own people and is sentenced to death for it the sooner the execution the better to bring closure to the Iraqi people.

i think of the Iraqis had no determination yet to execute Saddam. as long as he remained alive there would continuously be a terror between people who're at the instant in fee that Saddam would come back to pwer and take revenge. The individuals in spite of the incontrovertible fact that set up a instruct trial that grew to become into in no way going to grant Saddam a honest trial. subsequently the putting would continuously ber seen as victors justice and that i think of the individuals made a mistake this style. Saddam grew to become into an evil tyrant for the period of his life and that i won't be able to see many human beings laying off any tears for the guy

most likely both, this could have been done through diplomatic ties behind the scenes(like the release of the Iran hostages, that was agreed upon with the republican, and the Iranians) i don't think he cared enough to stop it. everyone knew that it would be condemned by the world while the trail is still going on.for him it should be a win/win situation. the Iraqis would have never had Saddam unless bush, bush had nothing to do with the premature execution. but most likely the Muslim world wont see it that way.

He was in US custody. He had to be turned over the the Iraqi's in order for him to be executed. If Bush really didn't want Saddam executed the order would have been given to not surrender Saddam.

Bush could have easily stopped the execution. Saddam was in US hands all the way up to his execution. Bush could have made one phone call, and had Saddam delivered to the Hauge, but he didn't get the name "Texecutioner" for nothing.

No, the democratically elected iraqi judges decided that he should be executed. People are funny believing that bush had something to do with the trial.

Of course he could have stopped it. He was held by the Americans - I mean by the alliance of th ewilling - until the last minute, then handed over for execution.
Bush made it very clear that he had no interest in stopping the execution. He didn't exactly prevent executions in Texas, did he?

If Bush had ordered his execution stopped the Libs would have been up in arms because "oh my gosh we interfered with their sovereignty, Bush is Hitler" and all that lib speak. The fact of the matter is, Bush had no power or jurisdiction over it.

He didn't need to. He delivered Saddam into the hands of a Shiite controlled Iraqi government. Then...let nature take its course.

No and yes and sort-of!
The US handpicked those trying him and his "Jury"! Saddam should not have been tried in Iraq, he should have been tried in the World Court!
Sure he could have stopped it! All he had to say was no, or not release Saddam to the Iraqi's 30 min before he was hung as he was in our possession!!
