It depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to use the guitar for. Seagull makes really good acoustic guitars for a decent price. All of their guitars are handmade in Quebec and all have solid wood tops so that they age and sound better as you play them. My first guitar was a Seagull S6+ with the cutaway, and even after buying two other guitars I still keep it around because it has such a sweet, full sound. I would put it up against a guitar that cost 2 or 3 times as much; it's that good. One of my other guitars is an Ovation Pinnacle Deluxe. I wouldn't recommend it for playing just acoustically, because it doesn't give off as true of an acoustic tone as a true acoustic would. It does sound really good when you plug it into an acoustic amp or a PA system, though, especially if your route it through an equalizer first. I couldn't really recommend anything else, but Gibson, Martin, and Taylor are all supposed to make good stuff. Takamine acoustic guitars aren't supposed to be all that bad either, and have the same parent company as Ovation.

I'm an old musician from back in the 70's and I've always been fond of Martin and Ovation for the acoustic sound but it really depends on what style of music you play. Listen to music being played by professionals using the guitar you think you like. Heart played an Ovation and old Uriah Heep used a Martin. Oh, the Martin sounds sweet when a pickup is added to it, it almost has a 12 string sound.

Martin, Taylor and Gibson. Mostly very expensive tho, but you can get a Taylor big baby for $400.00, It's a real nice sounding guitar 15/16 size, so it's not too big. But it is of utmost quality as are Gibson and Martin.

Martin and Taylor both make high quality acoustic guitars. I have one of each and love them both. I probably prefer the Taylor just a touch more, though.

I agree with Tangus, Martin & Taylor, with Taylor being my favorite. If you can't afford a high-end Martin or Taylor, there are some REALLY nice mid-priced acoustics from Alvarez, Ibanez & Seagull.

Oh dude, I literally just got an Applause AE-148 Ovation copy - its the best acoustic I've ever played!!
I have two Taylors, and I sold a Martin to get my Les Paul - don't go for the massively priced "Names," cos they aint always made for normal people!!!!
Go for an Ovation if you can afford one, but believe me, the Applause line are STUNNING!!! SO playable, SO cheap, SO LOUD!!!! and the built in pre-amp is top quality - it has a gorgeous bassy low end, and nice trebly highs. LOVE IT!!!

The higher end Waldens are very nice. The woods they use are beautiful and they have a satin finish, the tones are much nicer sounding as opposed to the laminated tops.
