Well first go into Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore. IF you want to do a clean install like how like how it was when it was new then you need the disk, unless you have a new HP or Dell most likely you did not receive a Windows XP disk. It keeps people from making illegal copies, so they say at least. Anyway here is the link for a new Dell PC:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?docid=03107B44E57F7A7DE0401E0A55170BD9&c=us&l=en&s=gen
For HP its:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00608578
It says its for laptops but it is pretty generic though. These will tell you how to do a System restore to the factory defaults. Just remember though when you do it this way instead of the first method I mentioned the drive gets erased and a fresh copy of Windows is installed. You will loose any pictures or music or any other type of files you have saved onto the hard drive. So back everything up onto a CD. If you don't have a CD burner go buy a USB flash drive and save everything to that.
