I'm a freshman in college. I've taken my ACT tests. I've done the necessary paper work. I'm in school. My cousin is a senior in high school. It is the beginning of the second semester and she hasn't taken an ACT or an SAT. She is runing out of time. I told her the other day that when fall rolls around if she's not taken any of the tests then she will not get into ANY college at all. She still doesn't seem to get it. My Aunt doesn't listen either. Is there anything I can say or do differently that will get the point across? At the time my Aunt was in college, they didn't have to take the tests. She is out of the loop. Thoughts. Opinions.

Some schools have rolling admissions and there's still a chance she could "catch" one of them if she gets moving now. But of course, the competition for whatever spots remain for the fall will soon become fierce.

The answers here are right. You've done what you can. Focus on your own studies and school career now.

You are JUST a kid and don't know squat. That is probably what they think of you. I know how it is, my wife has spent her life in a reactive mode. It would have been better to get proactive for ten minutes and the other 50 years would have been so much easier.

You will just have to accept that they know more than you do and be available to help pick up the pieces when the light comes on and your cousin realizes she has screwed up.

Focus on what you can have an effect on, get that English grade up and quit putting off the math homework, it won't do itself.

Hey man seriously, all the best from this end and good luck on those college classes. And pace yourself, I burned out and never did get a degree in anything but hard knocks...

The only thing you can do is keep trying to push her, but the final decision is hers. If she wants to be slack and wait around until the last minute, then that's her choice, and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. It sounds to me like she doesn't really want to go to college after all because if she did, she'd be on top of things.

I think you have done all you can do for your cousin who seems to think that she will find time to do it later. Unfortunately, she will lose out because the system won't wait for her excuses. She is an adult, let her deal with the consequences of inaction and irresponsibility. She will only have herself to blame.

Hope this helps.

You've done what you can. Honestly, it's prolly too late at this point.

She can always go to JC and then transfer. When she can't get into a 4yr college, you can always say "I told you so."

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

All you can do is inform them. If they choose not to heed your advice, then its their choice. I realize that it is difficult to sit back and watch your cousin make a mistake, but if she is not willing to listen, you cant make her. Good luck!

Honestly, its not your problem. You told them. Thats all you can do. If she wants to get into college later, she will be able to.
