In order for 4x^2 + 20x + p,

4(x^2 + 5x + p/4) must be a perfect square.

We have to equate p/4 to "half squared" of 5.
By half-squared, I mean taking half of the value, and then squaring it; in our case, half of 5 is 5/2, and 5/2 squared is 25/4.

Therefore, p/4 = 25/4, so p = 25

That means 4x^2 + 20x + 25 is a perfect square, and it actually is, because it is equal to
(2x + 5) (2x + 5), or (2x + 5)^2

I don't know. But the problem is basicly saying 16x+20x+p= a square. Which would turn out ot be 36x+p=a square. So p might be 4 if x=1.
36x+p=square
36x/4+p=square
12x+p=square
p=4
x=1

16x^2+20x+p
take delta
d=400-4*16*p
d=400-64p
for it to be a perfect square delta has to equal zero
400-64p=0
400=64p
p=400/64
p=6.25
