Because I'm schizophrenic - no I'm not - yes I am - I thought I was psychotic - so??? ... geeez those voices in my head go on like that all day long ... who are you? - i'm hugh - you are me? - who am i? what was the question again? ... Someone asked a question? ... Run away!

I don't see a reason to fear mentally ill people..i mean that's their way of living life. Even if they seem a little strange and stuff..you have to feel bad for them..that they are in this condition in their head, i mean they see weird and crazy things and its nothing but sad. But some of these people can function and stuff. Ehh if that didn't help much, and it probably didn't because your asking why people are afraid. But yeah I didn't entirely understand what your definite definition of mentally ill is. But I tried my best.

Most of the time, you can't tell a person is mentally ill simply by judging them by appearance. I don't understand how one could be afraid of someone with mental illness unless the person is acting irrationally. Most of the time, the mentally ill are mostly a danger to themselves only. There is nothing to fear.
