O.K. First off I wish to know what exactly RAM is. Does this RAM increase the speed of my computer? If I wanted to increase it how do i do that and what exactly should i buy? What does a processor do?? Does this increase the speed of my computer. I want to know this because I have the Sims 2 game and it calls for 256 mb of RAM and i have that much but it is slow and pauses alot. I want it to run smoothly with little or no pauses whatsoever.

RAM is random access memory, when programs are running this is where the information is stored for quick retrieval. Windows XP uses a minimum of 256MB of RAM alone. So your game requiring 256MB of RAM is bogging down your system and causing it to use physical memory on the hard-drive to use your game, creating the sluggishness of your game. I recommend a minimum of 512MB of RAM in new systems and 1GB of RAM is even better, you can never have too much RAM. RAM does increase the speed of your computer in some ways as the more RAM you have the faster programs open and run because the less RAM you have the more your computer has to use your hard-drive for storage. First of all, yes a faster processor would speed up your computer but all you really need is more ram. Ram is kind of like a temporary memory bank for the programs which are running on your computer. So, if your game needs 256 mb of ram and that's all your computer has, the game is using all of the ram and that is why it runs slow and gets hung up. Installing ram is not too difficult. If you are not afraid to open up your computer and can follow instructions, you can do it yourself. (I'm a girl and I upgraded my own ram :) ) Anyway, just make sure that you get the correct kind of ram - you said you have 256 mb of DDR SDRAM, make sure you get DDR SDRAM and refer to the computer manual to find out what increments of ram you can upgrade. Or ask someone at Best Buy or something, they might be able to help.

RAM is Random Access Memory, or files in the system's memory modules that the computer accesses randomly to properly open and run a program. A processor is the computers CPU. It provides speed, and as I see, your processor is pretty good. (Better than mine).
Your RAM is very little, I recommend buying a memory module of atleast 512MB. Then your game will run better. A lot better. But when installing RAM, you must open your computer, which I'm guessing that you can't since you appear to not know much. (No offense.) Get a techie to help you.

You are more than likely running shared video which meands that even though you have enough memory to run the game at least half of it is being used by the video. The best solution is to invest in a video card. I would recommend a 128Mb or 256Mb. Also I would increase the RAM by another 256 to avoid future conflicts.

ok ram is random access memory. The processor is the brain and if you want a faster game speed i would make sure you have at least 512 ram and then get a video card a cheap on should be fine so if it says it is 128 meg that should be great and it will help your computer go faster.

ok, i don't know too much about computers but i know that RAM is Random access memory and the more of it you have, the better programmes will run.
256MB is the minimum the game needs to run, no?
Well, say if you had double that 512mb..or even more 1gig, your game would run perfectly. You can add more ram to your computer but you would have to first check the slots to see if there are any spaces avaliable.
I advise 512mb for a good performance computer, 256mb would only allow a few programmes at once and then they won't run as fast as they would on a 512mb.
Sorry if i didn't help.

You are right the problem is lack of memory. I would go to the store and buy another 512MB of Desktop DDR SDRAM (i.e. NOT DDR2). Then when you get back home turn off the computer and install it.
