LOL why do you need a passport if you are not leaving the country, no matter what the rest of the world believes most americans just simply can not afford to do that. America is a big country also there is still loads of stuff I haven't seen here, not that I am not interested in going over seas but I just don't have those kinds of funds yet!

America is so big that you can travel a lifetime and see a hundred wonders without leaving the country. Perhaps they are proud of their country and the wide opportunities it offers. But they are missing out on so much more by not travelling. Now they have to have a passport to travel to Canada and Mexico, so let's hope there are a few less over-proud passportless Americans.

Well it is a huge country, is it bigger than Europe? I haven't travelled outside of Europe and I doubt I ever will, so I think of it like that. It's good to be proud of your country well to an extent anyway. I mean they could visit places that are cold, like Seattle, they could visit the desert in places such as the Grand Canyon. They can go to hot and sunny places by the ocean like California or Florida. They have the big gambling towns like Las Vegas, which I reeeeeaaaally wanna visit! There are so many different climates, scenery and things to do in the US, it would take a lifetime to just visit all of them.

I mean hell, according to the majority of the non americans on here, we don't know our *** from a hole in the ground. But hey THANK YOU, and from the LAND OF THE FREE, I am giving you a special AMERICAN SALUTE.

I have a passport and I travel all the time. Most people that I know also have passports and if they don't they just have never needed one, it was not a matter of pride to them.

Don't group a bunch of people together to make a blanket statement. not a smart thing to do. that's when you become offensive.

Umm because I have a birth certificate and a social security card.
Maybe not as good as a passport but better than a "greencard"
But just for giggles can you tell me where you heard this stupid piece of information?

What? I'm an American, and have never heard of such a thing. Nearly every American I know has a passport.

I agree, a large proportion of America have never left the country, probably why they don't give a monkeys about anyone else as they truly believe they are the only nation on the planet. I heard that George Bush only got a passport when he became President and that wouldn't surprise me!! Please see answer from a previous question stating that only 10% of Americans hold a pass port.....

possibly the same reason as the french as they have a huge and varied country with all they need in it, eg snow, desert, beaches, lush countryside, mega cities etc. so they don't need to travel abroad with a passport.
