Replacing electronic parts without proper diagnosing is very expensive as it has been found to be that the problem is wiring related more than hard component problems. First I would trace the wiring from the transmission area all the way up into the cab paying close attention to any rub or burn marks found on your way. These wires are usually encased in a plastic loom for protection. You will be looking for anything pinching or burning through the loom. If nothing is noticeable or maybe even before looking at the wiring, I would do a PCM scan test. I don't see anything about the SES warning light being illuminated on the dash complaint in your question. The tranny speed sensor is an input for the PCM. If there is no speed sensor code, all that stuff from the sensor up to the buffer is okay. If that is the case, you are probably are looking at a faulty cluster. The buffer changes the AC voltage of the speed sensor into a DC signal and supplies it to the on board modules. You will have to either get the dealer to plug into the diagnostic connector or an aftermarket place to check the codes and to monitor the speed with the scanner. Does that all make sense? Good luck.

Have it scanned to see if vss signal is present in data on tool. if its not then you have a broke wire going to sensor. If vss shows speed on scan tool, then it is mabe cluster at fault.
