Wireless Routers connect a computer to the internet wirelessly by using radio signals. The PC requests something and then the router sends it.

It works just like a wired router, except it recieves and sends data by radio, instead of cables. Reception, however, is highly dependent on so-called "environmental" factors, such as walls, interference from other domestic electrical equipment (inc. computers!), etc. and can be as little as 50 feet. The manufacturer, of course, always quotes the figure for "line of sight" and in the middle of a field! Ideally, it should be positioned as high as possible and as near to the centre of the area it has to cover as possible.

It basically acts as a 2-way radio. It basically uses radio frequencies to extend your phone line, so you don't need a cable. The range depends on the power of the router itself, but it coult be anywhere from 10m to 50m. i.e. you can go online from your back garden if your router is in your front bedrrom
