Not happy agreeing with an Arsenal fan, but well, your question is a good one... i think it's because they are so simple (and weak minded) that they believe the crap that they are fed from their media, they can't speak English properly because they aren't that bright... wow, come to think of it, they are REALLY STUPID! i think i've found your answer :-)

Ohhhhh, that's not nice! Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? Lol....sounds like it.
Well! I'm an American and I can certainly being annoying at times. Why? To get a rise out of folks who are willing to let it bother them....instead of letting something roll off their backs.... It's character building.... vbg
As for being more important....It's called pride dear. And as for the head "maniac"......lol......All I can say is "sorry".
Re: our language? Descendants of the English......da! And we do speak "American", either you're not listening to it or you can't hear it.
Re: Hoover Dam bursting. If it ever busted.... It would be rebuilt, again! Just like New Orleans. A third of our population might be impacted, but I do doubt they'd be lost. Shame on you for trying to wish something like that upon the American people. That's really not nice! [And just think, I get to share the planet with someone wishing harm on that many people. So....Who's the maniac?]

I'm a European, French-speaking, I've been to the US many times and I've met some wonderful people there. Of course I came across a few morons, but which country hasn't its share of those? America is a concept Americans are people. I'd trust the people over the concept.
One major difference though between Europeans and Americans: nationalism. It's a good thing to be proud of your country, it's dangerous to be too proud of it... We in Europe have got 2000 years of conflicting history fueled by nationalisms of all kind France against England against Spain against Austria, against The Netherlands, against....hence we are a bit warry of it when we meet it, it's a gut reaction.

I was told it is because most young people do not smoke any more which used to deepen their voices so now the pitch is higher. I agree, young women these days do tend to have these high "squeaky" baby girl voices that are SUPER irritating, even to me and I am a woman.

Why are we arrogant? Because everyone wants to be us. Look around, our culture is the most imitated, the most duplicated in the world. The entire world follows our politics, (how many brits can tell you who the president of the US is..now take a guess how many Americans *care* who the PM is...), they watch our television, our movies, follow our art, our fashions, the rest of the world takes its cues from us.
As for our language, you sound idiotic, we dont speak "english" and neither does anyone else in the world. If we did, we'd all sound like Shakespeare. language is a living thing, it evolves as its used. We speak American English, you Brits speak British English, other countries who speak english speak their own dialects.
In short, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and the rest of the world calls us arrogant simply becaue they are jealous.

maby the British should believe in ourselves a bit more and we would not feel so threatened or substandard as you seem to be ( feeling the need to slag of an other nation) and probably not knowing anyone from that country

I think that what you have just said is so unfair of you. Aren't we all annoying in some ways. This is why there is so much hate and anger in the world because people like you have to be so judgemental of others. Stop complaining about things that are not really important.
If your ENGLISH then do you realise you have just given people like me a bad name. GET A LIFE.
HEY FOR THE AMERICANS some english do love you LIKE ME XXX
MAYBE IF YOUR DAM HEAD WAS TO BURST THEN YOUR BRAIN WOULD BE IN WORKING ORDER.

If the Hoover dam broke I'm sure a lot of lives would be lost in Boulder City, which is just downstream of it. Also, I suspect most of Las Vegas would shut down due to lack of power.
In answer to a question elsewhere, an American wrote "Hey pal, I am American and damn proud. No more stupid questions, ok.". They are proud; many might say 'too proud' and my own experience on holiday around the world is that many of them have a superiority complex. Canadians hate to be mistaken as Americans. In one hotel, at the reception party, there was spontaneous cheering and applause (from dozens of nationalities) when it was announced that there were no Americans staying there.

so you can come on here and have a pointless reason to whine. We don't think we are the only one of importance, we have never claimed that. If you are feeling insecure then you should talk to your prime minister. As for the English you are speaking of, we actually do call it American. American English. You speak standard Brittish English, we speak American English. So learn of what you are speaking of, before you run your mouth.
As for the hairs on the back of your neck, sounds like a hygiene problem.
As for the Hoove dam: Where in the hell did you get your statistics? Do you know where the dam is located? Do you know the population of the dam area as compared to the populaton of the US? Apparently not.
You may want to talk to your geography teacher, your English teacher and apparently your beautician before you come on here talking crap that you don't understand.
Next time, get your mothers permission before coming online talking to strangers.
If you want to move to the US, then you need to fill out the proper paperwork like the rest of the immigrants.
