I prefer sentence one. It makes it into a complex sentences.

I think both are acceptable, but I like sentence 1 better because it presents the situation you are asking about first, *before* asking the actual question. It gives the listener or reader a chance to realize, "OK, I'm going to be asked or told something about the Packers in the playoffs...", so it "sets the stage" for your question, if you will.

I think 1 is better if it's a headline banner on a newspaper. more catchy i mean the possibility of the packers making the playoffs is posed at the reader then the question of how far they would go.
# 2 posed you a question first how far then only if.

I see no grammatical issues in either, but prefer the second. But the first is quite acceptable, and ultimately I suppose that I would choose depending on context.
