I don't like the current genre of chick lit that's out now. I never did like the Harlequin or their more modern version that's being published. I prefer something that has characters I can relate to--maybe it's the woman in an unhappy marriage, or the husband who finds himself a widower with kids to raise, something like that. I like Anita Shreve's books. Several of them have a historical basis that draws you even further into the story. She wrote SEA GLASS, FORTUNE'S ROCK, ALL HE EVER WANTED. I also like Anne Tyler's books. On a more frivilous note I like Fern Michaels. Most of them can be read in a day. I do admit I couldn't put down the series she did of a family saga taht took place in CA, TX and KY. I know I sound like a literary snob, but I'm actually not. I'm just learning that at my age and the circumstances I'm in, I need to read books that develop my mind more. I'm certainly not saying there's anything wrong with romance books as a genre--they as good an escape as any other book. It's just a shame that certain authors churn out romance books with barely a plot or character change.

I like trashy romance that includes some time-travel or paranormal activity. Fun, fun, fun!!

Jude Deveraux is great at those kinds of books.... but not enough sex if you ask me (c:

I love historical romance the best. Particularly those set in the Regency (Edwardian) period in England.
