depends on the sport you are focusing on. gymnastics to me are a no-no. there are way too many young girls out there starving themselves to be thinner, to do the moves easier. football , touch not tackle for the younger ones is safe - to a point , theres a risk in almost every sport. divers can break their necks, backs, foot ball , hockey can break bones that havent completed growing, and breaks of the growth plate on the ends of each bone are hard to heal. in baseball is semi safe. unless of course you do what my 7 yr old son did and try sliding into home plate without the coach taking time to properly teach them how to do it, he twisted a testicle and had to undergo surgery. i would say that the safe-ness of the sport depends on a few things, proper equipment, and mainly a coach who is trained , knowledgable and not out to win, making sure that the kids learn all that they need to know. it is benifical because they learn to work together, learning not only how to win but also how to lose gracefully. helping each other. - but then again you have parents in the stands that can ruin it for the kids. there needs to be less parents shouting from the stands and more parents looking into exactly who , and how their children are being trained.
