green day means that when u switch the first letters and drop the first word it comes up with what their music is green day = dreen gay - dreen = gay

My understanding was that the term Green Day was when pot smokers got together for a smoke in.
You know, U2 is still pretty good, but they used to be better - before they sold out. Actually I feel the same about Green Day. Both groups used to put out albums full of good songs, now they're lucky if 1 song is good on each album.
Well, maybe the creative juices have run dry. They're still very talented musicians who really know how to rock.

u2 is ok. u2 and green days new song is really good. green day got there name cause they were making fun of sesame street and they named the band after the phrase " its a green day to day "

Green Day means smoking marijuana all day, thus you have a Green Day. I don't like Green Day or U2.

a 'green day' is a bay area slang term meaning a day spent smoking marijuana.
however this is not what the band greenday is named for. billie joe was once quoted in a magazine article saying that the name (changed from 'the sweet children') was thought up while the band was smoking pot in one of their basements (i forget who) and they were watching tv, sesemee street came on and elmo said 'it's green day!' which made them bust up laughing because they were having a 'green day'.
in one of the band's videos you can see a bit of a tribute to that, there is supposedly an elmo like character on a tv screen in one video (i forget which one and never really cared enough to check myself) and elmo can be found on what i believe was the advance cover of dookie on a tv screen.
