When your company gives you a computer do they know what you are doing on it?

I don't mean the ones you use in your office, but for example my company gave me a laptop to take home, do they know what I'm doing on it at home?

If so how do they find out.

If you erase your history and cookies, can they still find out?

I've been wondering since I may have done some inappropriate things (porn, dirty emails) on my dads companys laptop but I erased all the search history and cookies. The laptop is from Hewlett-Packard. Im 18 btw.

Btw I use a home internet connection. I use it at home not at work.

Is there any way for me to clean my computer so that they can't see what I've done?

Will Ad-aware and Spybot do the trick?

ok i didn't do anything illegal but for example can it see the things I typed on a message board, or can it only see the webpages or website I visited?

It depends on the company, many do have tracking software, keyloggers, etc.
I set them to store the history in a password protected, encrypted file. It doesn't matter if you delete history and cookies, I have the backup file hidden from you.
If you wouldn't do it with your boss watching over your shoulder, don't do it.

You can't completely erase things on that computer. Someone who is computer savvy can find out all the things you're doing on that computer. Have you never watched CSI ?
Even computers that people have tried to erase, can have history on it.
If the right person looks at that computer to determine just what it's being used for, it will have footprints on where and when it went.
Hope you didn't do anything illegal on that thing.

We give all of our employees pc's for their jobs. But they are for work. So if you are doing things you know you shouldn't- then stop. And in the meantime, your best bet would be to format it. And yes, there are plenty of programs out there that can take screen shots of your activities, record information, etc that has nothing to do with your history or cookies. Behave yourself and you won't have to worry about it.

Unfortunately, even when you erase stuff it is still there & if your dad works for Hewlett Packard.......they REALLY know.
You father could lose his job if this is found on his computer.
I would fess up so that he can rectify this before he gets into trouble or loses his job.
