every person is different. i bled like crazy with the depo and ended up with severe anemia because of it. i, however, love my mirena and can't imagine going back. i recommend it, but it can hard to insert if you haven't had a child. they gave me some meds to take beforehand but i decided against it - and that was stupid looking back. but like the person before me, i love the mirena and it can stay for 5 years! also, places like planned parenthood charge a sliding scale if you don't have insurance! one of my friends from university was able to receive hers free of charge.

I have never been on depo...but have the Mirena IUD. I love it! I no longer suffer from painful heavy periods. I think you will be pleased if you get the Mirena.
