You could call the State Correctional Facility. Even if they don't know they would be able to point you in the right direction.

To locate an offender within the jurisdiction of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation you can call the Identification Unit at (916) 445-6713. You must provide the full name and the month, day and year of birth or CDC identification number for the subject of your inquiry. This unit can only provide you with the current location and CDC identification number for the offender. The Identification Unit does not have and will not provide any future release date information. This service is available only Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. excluding state holidays. You may also fax your inquiry to the Identification Unit at (916) 322-0500.

Please note that information for offenders recently admitted into or transferred between state prisons may not be available for 7 business days.

You need to know more specifically where they are. If they are in a county or city jail or a federal penitentery. If it's really a prison, that makes it federal jurisdiction and you can try this site http://www.bop.gov/inmate_locator/index.jsp

If not, you'll need to know the name of the city or county he's located in and go to that city or county's website. They should all have inmate locators.

after you get to this site there is a list of cities , click on the city that the prison is located then scroll down to inmate information. If you don't know what city/prison you have to check them all. Chowchilla prison is the only women's prison in the state.

CDOC.com should be the California dept. of corrections. In my state we also have OTIS but I don't know if that is just our state or if it a country wide thing.

There should be a website that has information on the local courts and who was charged with what (there's one in wisconsin), and what the penalty was.
