what material can i use dry erase expo markers on, and still erase it like on a marker board, i think you can use some metals, like aluminum, but is there anything that would be a household item, or if i could make one or what, i need a rectangular shaped marker board, like 6x2 i guess, and i don't want to go buy one retail, and i don't have time to wait on someone to ship me something from eBay

The materials that everyone is talking about is called Melamine. It can also be used to make "shower stalls" as mentioned above.

Mirror does work but you can't cut that very well and it would be very expensive.

There are many types of Melamine available on the market and the "shower stall" type Melamine sold in big box companies like Home Depot doesn't really make the best dry erase board but it will work for a short period of time, like maybe 6 months to a year.

Make sure that you wash the material completely before using it. Use a solution of 50/50 water and household rubbing alcohol and give the material a good cleaning with a soft cloth... nothing abrassive because you'll remove the surface and it won't erase. After this rinse it with plain water and dry it with a soft cloth. Make sure it is completely dry before you write on it.

Use ONLY black dry erase markers... they erase the best and will add to the longevity of the board. You can pick up an Expo Board cleaner and conditioner somewhere like Staples for about $2.50 a bottle. Use this to clean your board regularly. Once a month do a deap cleaning as described above. Don't let the markers sit for more than a day... this material can't take it.

We also offer a dry erase wall covering that works really well and applies like a wall paper... you might want to check that out. I'll provide a link.

Best of Luck

Depends on the school, but most will let you. You can go to Lowes or Home Depot and talk to them. Use bathroom wall laminate (they'll know what I'm talking about). It is a lot cheaper than buying a large dry erase board and it works the same. They will even cut up a sheet into a class set of smaller boards (for free) if you want those as well. I love my dry erase board. It is less messy, I write sooo much neater, and I don't sneeze from all the dust.

A fellow band director told me that when dry erase boards were still really expensive and his school wouldn't pay for one, he went out in search of a substitute, too. He got a flat piece of the stuff they make shower stalls out of (I can't remember what it's called) and used that. He said it was inexpensive and fairly lightweight, and worked perfectly.

I haven't used it, and I didn't see him use it (it was a few years before I met him), so I can't promise it will work, but it's worth a try. I would go somewhere that they have scraps of it and try it on a scrap piece, or a damaged piece that they have to return or something before I invested in it!

Hope this helps!
