The best excuse if you're calling in sick is to just call in sick. Say you've been up sick all night long and haven't got any sleep and you're not feeling any better. Tell them you will try to make it in if you get to feeling better. Cough a little bit and try to sound tired, but don't over-do it. Also, practice your technique a few times, and make the call from the bathroom as it will sound like you're on the toilet.

Just call and say Your sorry but you have a Family or Personnel matter that requires your attention. the matter just occurred. so you will be late or not in at all. You don't want to lie to them and for god's sake don't tell anyone what your doing.

I always like "stomach flu" it indicates intestinal trouble.
