has anyone heard of some sort of 'haven' for fish? im joining the military, will be in for at least 5 years, probably more, and i have
fish. fish that i love and treasures. long-living fish. i want to pay someone, some organization, some zoo...something- to take my fish and tank and care for them as long as I'm gone.

has anyone heard of any sort of organization
of this sort?

do you know anyone who HAS done this before?
is it possible a zoo might take them?

family or friend can help?

what's the fish?
maybe you can go on a real fish forum and ask somebody living close to you if they're willing to take care of it for 5 years.

they'd definitely do it if you pay them for fish food and all.

if you're living on a base, you might be able to keep a fish.

** and don't give it to a fish store... it's a death sentence

It depends on where you live and what kind of fish it is. Many zoos are willing to take rare or highly sought after fish - you would have to enquire.

Otherwise, try locating your local fish club. You will surely find someone who will gladly take a fish aquarium while you are gone.

Good luck with your military endeavours :)

this is what i would do: if you don't have any trusted family or friend to take the task. do you have a favorite trusted pet store? we have a pet store and our customers are very loyal and know us all by name. I've done it for customers, take a fish or two to care for it while gone for a year or so. ask an employee you know, they would probably be glad to do it specially if your willing to pay them. I wouldn't ask a zoo or a large chain store. you want it to be more of a personal favor by someone who knows what they are doing.

I maintain several aquariums in nursing homes and cancer centers. They are usually on a tight budget and might enjoy a chance for a loaner tank for a few years. The only catch may be finding someone to keep it up for them.

It deoends on where you live, but I know in the paper there is usually people advertising for pet sitting.

Can you not get a friend or neighbour to do it?

Maybe try a pet store..they usually have display tanks

Boy I've never heard of this one before. I don't know of any fish sitting services, especially for long term absenses.
