Well i never liked books AT ALL! but until I started going to the library every day after school to do my homework, I had to wait for one of my parents to come pick me up, so i was waiting and saw a book ( and yes i know they say not to judge a book by its cover) but the cover looked good, u know... it looked like the type of book i would want to read, so i started reading it, and it was such a gr8 book! now i read so many books, and cant put them down, my parents even banned me from the library ( i know... sounds pathetic) but thats how i started reading! So im not saying to judge a book by its cover, but if you like something, and you see a book with that on it, then you should read the summary of the book (thats usually on the back of it- lol sorry your not stupid-) and it might be good...
it worked for me... but then again in only in 8th grade, so im not wize or n e thing...
Hope I helped!

TIp number one: Find out what kind of books you like. I loooove reading, but I know that if I was reading a nonfiction book, I would totally hate it. Maybe youve just been reading the wrong sorts of books all this time. Some people think fantasy is stupid, but I love it because its so unlike real life. Some people would rather read romance novels, but I hate sparkly vampires, so I'm not really into that. =) Ask your friends for books they like. I recommend Harry Potter for a start...

My nephews are about your age and they loved The Cirque Du Freak books by Darren Shan. A series of Vampire novels aimed at young men like you, great adventure stories that don't try and educate you at the same time as they're entertaining you.
If you're out of the habit of reading, these books are short and exciting.

There are so many good books--adult books, young adult books, etc. Just find something you're interested in. Do you like realistic fiction? graphic novels (comic books)? audio books? fantasy novels? science fiction novels?
I'd suggest Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
Others I'd suggest are:
Rash by Pete Hautman
Invisible by Pete Hautman
Burn Journals by Brent Runyon
King Dork by Frank Portman
Looking for Alaska by John Green
The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga
Endymion Spring by Matthew Skelton

you'll only read if you chose books which you'll like. I don't know any books for 14 year old boys since I'm a girl but the only thing I can tell you is that once you start reading books you like, it becomes a hobby and it's not boring at all.

Nancy Springer is an award winning writer who has 30 plus Young Adult books on the market. I often recommend her work. You might try Toughing It, a story about a teen boy with a troubled family.

start out by reading one newspaper article a day, so that you will get in the habit of reading. Then graduate to reading magazines, and from there start reading books. The key is not to bore yourself.

Do you live near a library? Spending time there and selecting good reads will make you want to be there, and not even for school. ;)
