insurance. My daughter has medicaid. Here is is known as Maine Care. Well anyway, she also has TMJ really bad. We need to see a specialist to see if anything can be done, what type it is ect.
Well, the problem begins: that I have contacted a specialist who said they take Maine Care and bill Maine Care - for other services - but have never heard of Maine Care paying for TMJ.

I have contacted Maine Care and they told me they will pay for it with a prior authorization. So I contacted the specialist and got the same story - Maine will not pay. They also told me they couldn't do a P/A without her being seen. (Doens't that sort of defeat the purpose of a P/A?)
Well, anyway, Maine Care will not call them, and I can't convince them to contact Maine Care - and this is the only oral surgeon in the STATE that does this - to my knowledge. If you know someone else please let me know.

Well, I am at the end of my rope! Maine says yes. The oral surgeon says no, where do I go from here?

Contact Alpha One. They are an Independent Living Center in Maine. They will be able to point you in the right direction on how to get this issue involved. Ask for the "Information and Referral Department"

Their contact information is below:

Independent Living Centers are available to assist people with disabilities to live independently in the privacy of their own home. Every ILC offers "Information and Referral" and many other services and programs. Each state has an ILC as well.

I would try a different method of treatment before surgery.

I was diagnosed with TMJ by my dentist about 25 years ago. They wanted me to have extensive surgery to correct the problem. I mentioned this to my Chiropractor during a routine adjustment. He made an adjustment on my jaw (no, he didn't hit me for those wanting to make fun of the fact that I believe in and trust Chiropractors) and I haven't had any problems since.

This $18.00 adjustment saved me $10,000.00 in surgery costs because TMJ wasn't covered by insurance then.
