This is a great question. Of course people often tend to forget that humans are not only mammals but animals also(for some reason humans classify themselves above all other animals). Humans commit suicide. Humans commit suicide probably for different reasons than other animals, since I am not sure if other animals get depressed, grieve, screw up, or lose all their money to gambling. But they do commit suicide. Lemmings march off of cliffs and sometimes even the mating drive of Preying Mantis and spiders result in death by the female of the male. Are these truly suicides, who knows, but what seems to make a suicide, is the true unwavering desire to end ones life

Yes. Dolphins have been known to commit suicide in captive situations (aquariums). Dolphins (unlike people) have to think about their breathing all the time and sometimes they just choose not to come up for that next breath. They have also been observed ramming their heads into tank walls until death.

Yes,humans commit suicide more than other mammals.I believe you should be reprimanded for the sloppy dangerous way you handled that poor thing and your cold post mortem analysis of its death. Stay off pets. You don't carry out fatal experiments with pets.

There was an interesting chimp documentary I saw on tv. One young chimp was so depressed after his mother died he just sat in a tree and refused to eat until he died. I think it's possible. They have little minds, and they definitely know about death.
