SHAWN H is right. It is very very simple. Just get a stereo or some sort of tape deck with the RCA outs on it and a RCA to headphone jack. Just plug into your line in. THen open your audio properties and go to the properties section>then select recording. When the new audio meters pop up select LINE IN. Adjust volume accordingly and just record. If you need a recording program that doesnt have a limit on record-length just download cakewalk off of limewire. Its a little upractical for tha but it works flawlessly.

Most half decent soundcards will have an audio in jack socket. Connect this to the stereo HEADPHONE socket on the cassette player and use Media player, real player or something of that ilk to record to hard disk then the same software to burn to CD. Creative 'Soundblaster' cards come with software to do this sort of thing.

there is a program called LP RECORDER (http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lprecorder/lprecorder.htm) which can transfer vinyl and cassettes from their respective players to your hard drive
all you need is a double to single adapter, meaning a lead with two audio jacks on one end and a single headphone jack on the other, the two jacks go in to the auxillary sockets on your audio system(or straight into the cassette decks output sockets) and the small jack goes into the line in socket on your sound card or your motherboards equivelent
then its a case of syncronizing the cassette with the program and then transfer them over
unfortunately this program is only a trial but it will give you a idea of the method of transfering older audio formats to your hard drive
good luck
