Hard to say. The media plays such a big role in our lives that people who become famous for being famous (Paris Hilton) or for being rich (Donald Trump) or for being talentless (Cast of High School Musical) or for being powerful or a moron or controversial (George W.Bush). And then they're are people who actually are talented and good people who have made wonderful improvements to our world, who really deserve to be famous. But even that can be disputed. (And don't forget UTube fame!)So really, it's a kind of individual thing since someone whose important in someone's life, may not be in antoher person's.
As for me, my favorite famous people are Johnny Depp and Oprah Winfrey, to name a few.

Well so far everyone is just listing important people. But when you think of "popular" or "famous" you don't really think that. Really I'd say Paris Hilton or The Beatles.
