If she is a friend then I would suggest that the truth would be best. If she is a little hurt she will get over it and soon enough be grateful that at least you stood your ground and did not try and con her. Trust me she will appreciate your honesty.

If you tell her the truth -- nicely! -- that she's asking for, and she gets angry at you, then she didn't want the truth, she just wanted flattery. That's not the kind of friend you want, anyway.

That doesn't mean you have to shove the truth down her throat, though. Keep it friendly, and focus on the positive. Here are a few examples:

#1: easy question

Q: Does this dress make me look fat?

Good A: The one you were wearing yesterday made you look really skinny; you should get more like those.

Bad A: Yes.

#2: hard question

Q: am I fat?

Good A: if you mean compared to supermodels that spend hours every day exercising, purging and spending money to be as thin as humanly possible, yes. You look terrific, but you're not a stick figure, and it would be bad if you were, because real life isn't airbrushed. You'd look like a crack addict.

Bad A: Yes.

A real friend tells the truth as long as it for the benefit of the friend or as long as she can learn something from it regardles of whether or not it is going to hurt them. If the truth is only to spite the friend or make her feel bad it isn't worth it. I also know some people that have told the truth, then their friend doesn't believe them anyway and all it does is cause a fight or end the friendship in which case it wasn't a very loyal friendship to begin with.

I say give her the truth, altho it may hurt... She asked for it! Depending on the situation, id say lieing would only hurt her in the end because if she were to find out the truth later, she would just be not only hurt by the truth, but that her friend also lied to her....

she needs to hear the truth, even if it hurts. but she may not be talking to u anymore after she hears the truth, cause it's hard to face the truth sometimes, as everyone has their own truth.

If you are a true friend you should be as honest as you can without completly crushing him/her. Think about yourself in that situation and think about how you would take it or how it would sound. Sometimes the truth hurts but it usually beats the alternative!

Be honest but make her aware that by no means are you trying to hurt her feelings. If she gets upset then ask her why would she ask if she cant handle the truth.
