10.Several days after a snowstorm, the roof on a house is uniformly covered with snow. On a neighboring house, however, the snow on the roof has completely melted. Which house is probably better insulated? Give your reasoning.
11.One car has a metal body, while another has a plastic body. On a cold winter day these cars are parked side by side. If you put a bare hand on each car, the metal body feels colder. Why?
12.A high-quality pot is designed so heat can enter readily and be distributed evenly, while the rate of energy loss from the pot is kept to a minimum. Many high-quality pots have copper bases and polished stainless steel sides. Based on conduction and radiation principles, explain this design is better than all-copper or all-steel units.
13.A concave mirror can be used to start a fire by directing sunlight onto a small spot on a piece of paper. Explain why the mirror does not get as hot as the paper.

10. The house with the snow still on the roof is better insulated. The heat stayed inside the house. The house with the snow melted is poorly insulated and the heat escaped through the roof, melting the snow on it's way out.
11. Metal is a better conductor of temperature than plastic. It retains the cold and transfers it to your hand more easily than the plastic.
12. Copper is not as insulating as steel. The copper bottom allows the heat to enter the pot through the bottom. The stainless steel sides keep the heat in the pot. If the pot were all copper, heat would enter through the bottom, but escape through the sides. If the pot were all steel, the heat would not enter through the bottom as well.
13. The mirror reflects the sun's heat as well as teh light. The paper absorbs the heat and warms up until it is hot enough to ignite.

10. the house with the snow on the roof is better insulated because the heat couldn't make it through the roof to melt the snow.
11.Metal is a better conductor of heat. This means that it draws heat away from your hands and conducts it away, this is why it feels colder.
12.Copper conducts heat quickly, while steal conducts it more slowly. There is constant heat being put on the copper part, so it conducts heat to the sides. If the pot had copper sides, heat would go through them and away, so the sides wouldnt be hot. If it had a steal bottom it woul;d take to long for the heat to get to the sides of the pot.
13.The mirror reflects the heat, while the paper absorbs it.

10. The house with the snow on the roof is better insulated because a house with good insulation will keep the heat in and off the roof therefore keeping snow on the roof. Poor insulation will let all the heat from the house rise through the roof and melt the snow.
11.Metal is a better conductor of both heat and cold while plastic is not.

Too many ?s. Ask one at a time.

The house with the snow completely melted has very little ins.

Because the heat from the inside of the house went right through the roof and melted the snow.
