I'm thinking about entering into this career field and want a little more info. I don't have access to most internet sites (they are blocked through my ISP filter), so please don't leave links.

How much do you get paid?
I know that the schooling is about 2 years, but how much does is cost to get this degree?
If you are in this career field, I would love to hear your response!

Also, do you think it might be easier to become a dental assistant? There's less "anatomy" to remember (only teeth instead of the entire bone structure, etc...).
Please help!

I am and RT(R) or radiologic technologist. I went to a 2 year school and got an associates degree. How much you make depends on where you live. Most make between $17-$35/hr. I went to a community college so the cost is not that much as compared to a university. If you are looking for something easy - xray is not the way to go. alot of people think we are just button pushers, but thats not true. there is alot of math and physics and anatomy. You have to know every single bone and organ in the body as well as different ailments and diseases. It is a great job, but it is definetely not easy.
good luck

First its Radiologic Technologist ( not technician ). and yes RTs make more than certificate techs. Some states require 4 years but others 2 ( I know Texas is a two year state ). Cost depends on the college you attend ( as long as you have a degree and are ARRT accredited the hospitals don't care if you went to a big name school or Joe blow community college. I dont know about less anatomy for the dental assistant, but my personal choice would be xray over dental for sure ( do what you like not what pays best ). There is more room for advancement in xray than in dental without the need for a higher degree. Pay starting out is about 18 in this area ( all depends on area you are in, and how good you are) upward pay can be around 50 if you specialize or do travel work. Hope this helps, also if you can get to it a good web to start with is www.arrt.org

I am an Xray Tech.
First, there are Xray Tech's and there are Radiology Tech's. There IS a difference! Xray techs, or PTR's (Practical Technician of Radiology) make FAR LESS than an RT. PTR School is 8 months to a year, and RT school is usually four years. IF you want the highter paying job, BE SURE to ask if you'll have limited scope or not when you enroll in school. (You don't want limited scope... and schools will not tell you the difference between PTR/RT. My school didn't tell me, and I thought when I enrolled I"d be an RT)
As a PTR, you can make from ten to 20 dollars an hour, depending on where you live/work. RT's can make upwards of 40 dollars an hour where I live.

I was a dental assistant years ago, and the school was not very hard at all. There's LOTS of math involved in being a PTR or RT, so if you hate math, consider that.

Good Luck. You can email me if you have any other questions I can help with

You are looking at 4 years of school, premed. If your grades are good and your MCAT scores are rocking, you will interview at med schools and hopefully get into one. After about 4-6 years of mind melting 24/7 work, including a residency in a hospital in which you will work DAYS at a time for what amounts to almost for free, you will be a doctor. This is a career that will require continued training and education. You are in 7th grade. Keep your grades up and see where life takes you. And sorry, but softball is likely going to go by the way side in med school. And no, you do not get summers off.
