Coming from a successful 2 time Neon owner 99 and 03,(The 03 has 116,000 miles on it and is still running great...) I would have to say go with the Toyota, Any neon before 2000 usually blows a head gasket every 50k (Sooner if its a DOHC). If its well maintained you could probably get another 75k to 100k miles out of the corolla, but unless the Neon was impecaply maintained, its probably not a good Idea.

Take this car and flip it over on its roof. On the bottom of the car, near the driver's side firewall, you will find a date. This is the vehicle's expiration date. On this date this vehicle will suffer a catastrophic mechanical failure and you will need to have it towed to the nearest auto salvage yard. Seriously, the last time I looked, vehicles did not have expiration dates. It's a crap shoot when buying any used vehicle, foreign or domestic. The older the vehicle is, the more likelihood you will have mechanical issues. It is unrealistic to expect any 8 year old vehicle, domestic or foreign, to be trouble free. It can depend on how well the previous owner(s) maintained the vehicle. If it was well maintained chances are better that there will be fewer problems. If the vehicle was neglected chances are you will have more problems. It can also depend on how the previous owner(s) used the vehicle. If it was driven normally chances are that it will last longer. If the previous owner(s) beat the crap out of it chances are it won't last much longer. It also depends on how well you maintain and drive the vehicle. Take care of it and don't abuse it and chances are you will have less problems. Neglect it and beat the crap out of it and don't expect it to last long. There are far too many variables for anyone to give an accurate answer to a question like this. Try this. Pick a number. Any number. It will be just as accurate as any wild guess given here. One last thing to consider. Most people average about 12,000 miles per year. Normal miles on a 2004 should be between 84,000 to 96,000. I would consider this car having high miles. Something to consider when negotiating your price.

Any car will last as long as it is taken car of. The Toyota will probaly last longer, but if you take care of the Neon, change the oil and keep it tuned up you should get well over 200K out of it. Maybe upto 300K

Dodge Neons are less reliable than the toyotas. Go with the corolla. The neon will probably last till 150k then something major will go wrong with it.

Not very long. Neons are notorious for blowing timing belts and head gaskets. Bad cars after 80k miles. Stick with the corolla, easier to fix, longer runability. 150k miles on a corolla is like 70k miles on any other vehicle. Just keep it maintained.

Way too many miles on either cars. Keep looking.
the cost of repairs is going to leave you stranded for a long while if you break down. Most people get rid of a car when they no longer want to pay to fix it.

Dodge Neon's are one of the WORST vehicles to own. My sis had one and sold it to me. It was a 2000 and it lasted one year. It had low miles to. Toyota is a much better car.
