Joining the military is a good idea for a lot of people. You will get a lot of experience and they will pay for you to go to college. You will also get health insurance and dental insurance. Not everyone in the military agrees with some of the decisions being made, but they just suck it up and go to work everyday. I'm sure you don't agree with everything your boss does if you even have a job.

First off, it's not a crazy war. If Bush had heard that there was WMD over there and did NOTHING you would be throwing a fit about him doing nothing and I know this because of all the other afraid of 'Big Bomb" posts. It is better to know there is none than risk them having had some.
Second, do you even know what Saddam did to people of his country? "Saddam Hussein's regime launched the al-Anfal campaign (Spoils of War), which led to the disappearance of tens of thousands of Kurds (182,000 is the number given by Kurdish authorities for the year 1988 alone) in northern Iraq when the military razed thousands of villages, launched poison gas attacks and rounded up men, women and children before shooting them or burying them alive in mass graves." 182,000 people in 1988 alone. And people are complaining about 3000 soldiers that died serving a cause they felt was right. They believed it was right for us to liberate them from under Saddam.
Third, why don't you actually look into what the military does for it's soldiers. The get money for housing, clothing and food. They get more if they have dependents. They get free dental and health (and for any dependents). They make a nice sum of cash monthly. Not to mention the bonuses they also can get. They can get college assistance financially. And you don't even have to go to college for this. They also give you all the training you need. Tell me what other company has that good of benefits?
Fourth, if you are going to be throwing in Agent Orange and other issue that many side effects were unknown at the time might as well complain about medical doctors. Heck how many of them give medication and not know all the side effects of them?

Its obvious . You can go to work for 8 dollars an hour serving drinks, food ,stocking shelfs ,or you can fire a machine gun ,drive a tank ,launch a rpg get a ten thousand dollar bonus . They planned years ago to dumb down the education system when they saw educated people with options leaving Jobs and forming small businesses . They had to begin using Commissioned sales people to provide Insurance ,financial services and investment firms Run by a few people began to take the money that went to pensions and invested it for the workers .
See before the 60's business reinvested and set up pensions then in the 80's they got raided and the rich took all the money away from those who had earned it . Then the 90's we had people fighting to get government work that had pensions that did not go away . Now we have 40 million people on our back and no way to shake them off .
See defense spending in the 80's went nuts and companies made billions and in the 90's Clinton screwed with that and the americans who count White folks said enough of this we need a war to survive .
So we got one . And by the way the whole time people at the top knew that educated people hate wars unless they are sure they do not have to fight in them or their kids .
So the poor are always taking it in the shorts .

if you can keep your head out of your a**, the military provides a great career, good travel opertunities and medical benifits while you are in, plus when you get out your property taxes are cut in half, just to mention a few, chances are that you`ll never get these items in open civilian life with out great expense. the percentage of career people with catastrophic injuries is less than 5% total the news reports from the popular press not withstanding. they provide unlimite training for any type of job you can think of and get you great placement as well. that what you do with the results is your own business after you get out.

I can only speak for myself. I take for granted the bill of rights and the freedoms we enjoy in this country. I wanted money for college. I wanted a new direction. I joined the military and it was a great experience for me. As poorly as this country has been run for the past few years, it is worth defending.

i agree that the war we currently find ourselves in is stupid and what source did you get that we are running out of armor(not because i dont believe you but id like to read it) however saying they lack common sense is pretty messed up soldiers are out thier dying for what we believe in though the figth is just directed to the wrong place besides the military treats you like dirt because youre not leaving the country to get tea youre figthing a war this (since the beginging of time) requires discipline to succeed besides if you are intelligent and stick with it you can find yourself a pretty nice retirement

Because allot of the higher paying jobs went overseas and not many people don't want to work at a low wage service industry job.
