An NBA player has to wait about five years to be eligible for the Basketball Hall of Fame. If Michael Jordan had stayed retired after the 1997-1998 NBA season, he would have been eligible in 2003 or 2004. Since he made a comeback in the 2001-2002 season and didn't retire until 2003, he will have to wait until 2008 or 2009 to be eligible for the Hall of Fame. Personally, I don't like nor do I respect him because, on the rare occasions that he gets fouled, he acts like a crybaby when he dosen't get his way. Everyone in the NBA should play by the rules. Including Jordan. However, that dosen't mean I don't think he is a Hall of Famer. I also don't like him because he also has a tendancy to sometimes play dirty. And yet, he almost never gets called for a foul anyways. He thinks that his name could get him out of almost any foul. However, he is talented, and I can't take that from him. It is a shame that not to many people want to talk about how the refs are around him. They either don't know about this or are just in denial all together. So, I think he will make The Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008 or 2009, because he retired for the last time in 2003. If he would have stayed in retired the first time in 1993, he would have made it in 1998 or 1999. Since he came back in 2001, he didn't make it in 2004. No exceptions should be made. Not even for Michael Jordan. His playing days are over. He is not slipping by this time. And for the record, Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest Basketball player of all time.

Alot of you people that tried to answer this question are just dumb, Jordan retired in April of 2003, so the Hall of Fame rules are that a player cannot be inducted until after 5 full seasons of their retirement, so Jordan will be eligible for next years Hall of Fame.

He played in the 2002-2003 season, you have to be completely retired from basketball for 5 years. He will be a first ballot guy guaranteed.

Because he had retired only a year or so before. They have to be retired about 4-5 years to be eligible. And I guess they didn't know if he would've came out of retirement again and re-re-re-retired like five years later.
